That’s why our Madison County Federal Credit Union Mastercard® Debit Card now comes embedded with encrypted microchip technology. Smart Chip Debit cards, or EMV cards, like ours mean added layers of security and protection from fraud for you. Here’s what you can look forward to as a card holder:

Greater Fraud Protection.
Information programmed into the chip is personalized for your MCFCU account.  Purchases can only be approved with a unique code that is generated with each use.This security feature, plus the fact that the embedded chip is almost impossible to duplicate makes your card extremely difficult to counterfeit.

Global Acceptance.
With your new card you have the freedom to go almost anywhere. More merchants are accepting chip transactions every day. Whether you check out using chip technology, or swipe your card, you can pay with confidence.

Easy to Use.
Simply swipe your card like you already do. However, if a chip activated terminal is available, just insert your card instead, follow the prompts, and remove when the transaction is complete.

 

Smart Chip Card FAQ

A Smart chip card - also called an EMV card - is a debit or credit card that comes with an encrypted microchip embedded in the card. The chip provides an enhanced layer of security to your transactions.
Each time you use your their smart chip card, it generates a code that is unique to that transaction. Your purchase can only be approved with this code.This security feature, plus the fact that the embedded chip is almost impossible to duplicate makes your new card extremely difficult to counterfeit.
EMV chips have been protecting consumers around the world from fraud for years. Now this proven technology will be providing YOU big protection wherever you use it.
Yes. Instead of swiping your card, you will insert the card, face up and chip end into the chip-enabled terminal and leave the card in during the entire transaction. You will be prompted at the end of the transaction to remove it.
Yes! Your chip card will also have the usual magnetic stripe on the back so you can continue using your card at ATMs and other non-chip payment terminals. You can also use your new card in ATMs along with your PIN.
Yes. You still need to sign the back of your card.
No. Chip cards can be used to make online purchases the same way as you do today with your current card.
